HUD homes for sale, what does that mean?

HUD homes are bank foreclosures that had FHA insured morgages. When the bank is finished with the foreclosure, they deed them to HUD. HUD is a branch of our federal government, and FHA is a twig of that branch.

When you buy a HUD home, you can ask HUD to pay most if not all of the closing costs, and Owner Occupant buyers can put as little as 3% down! (even less if there is a sale going on) HUD prices some of their homes with "repair Escrows" included in the HUD listed price, money put aside at closing to pay for specified repairs. In addition, if you can close quickly enough, HUD offers early closing bonuses.
